Giovanni Cavaletto – Vice President of Operations
Giovanniís great-grandparents came to California at the turn of the nineteenth century and farmed in Santa Barbara County. He grew up on an avocado and lemon farm in Nipomo. He has developed and managed orchards, worked as Indexís representative in Mexico, served as an Index field representative and currently is Vice-President of Operations. His practical experience is supported by advanced degrees in both agriculture and business. Giovanniís understanding of agriculture, growerís challenges and the greater avocado industry is a tremendous asset to growers and trading partners.
Our field staff certainly knows the lay of the land. They plant and raise avocado trees themselves, and they use their expertise to guide growers through the ins and outs of the industry. If you need market information, help estimating crop size or developing harvest strategies, or tips on scheduling harvest crews to insure the timely delivery and pick up of bins, contact a member of our field staff.
A third generation farmer, Gary still farms his family’s avocado and lemon orchards in the Santa Clara River Valley while acting as Index Fresh’s Ventura fieldman. With a lifetime of agricultural experience and over 30 years as a fieldman, Gary has witnessed the rapid growth of the California avocado industry first-hand. To stay up-to-date on the newest ideas and methods, he has visited every major avocado growing region in the world. Gary currently serves on the Production Research Committee and is a former member of the Avocado Inspection Committee.

His first professional experience with avocados came in Carpinteria where he worked with a farm manager and connected with Index Fresh. Bailey is a recent graduate from the 16 month Agriculture Leadership Foundation Program, has a BA in Communications from Sacramento State University, and a degree in Horticulture from American River College.
